How do we use cookies

Our Websites and App(s) use cookies and similar technologies such as mobile identifiers to distinguish you from other users. This helps us to provide you with a good experience when you browse our Websites, use our App(s), and also allows us to improve our Web sites and App(s).

What are cookies and how do they work?

Cookies are  small pieces of data that a website asks your browser to store on your computer or mobile device. Cookies allow the website to "remember" your actions or preferences over time. The use of cookies is standard practice: they are widely used in order to make websites work, or work more efficiently, as well as to provide information to the owners of the site.

Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but if you prefer, you can change your browser to prevent that and your help screen or manual will tell you how to do this. However, you may not be able to obtain full functionality in certain parts of the Web sites and App(s) if you do so. Please also note that our systems currently do not recognize browser “do not track” requests – if you wish to do so, you should disable cookies in your browser as explained in this Policy.

Cookies do not enable any access to and/or inspection of other information on your computer or other device. Cookies are specific to the server that created them and cannot be accessed by other servers, which means they cannot be used to track your movements around the web. Although they do identify a user's computer, cookies do not personally identify users and passwords and credit card information are not stored in cookies.

What sort of cookies do we use?

We use the following types of cookies:

Google Analytics

The website employs Google Analytics, a web-analysis tool from Google Inc. ("Google") that enables us to optimize our services for you. Google Analytics uses cookies that track your preferences during your visit to our websites. This allows us to simplify navigation, for example, thereby helping us to make the site more user-friendly. The information that is generated in this process (including the IP address) is anonymized, making personal identification impossible. An evaluation for reporting purposes is carried out only after the anonymization process. The data, generated by this cookie are usually transferred and stored on a server in the USA. As a user of our websites, you always have the option of disabling cookies in your browser settings. Most browsers allow cookies as a default setting. Should you change this setting, this may disrupt certain functions of our websites. Furthermore, you can prevent Google's acquisition and processing of the information that is generated by the cookie and concerns your activity on the website (including your IP address) by downloading and installing a browser plug-in. In this process, your IP-Address is in a first step reduced to countries in the European Union or other countries in the European Economic Community. What kind of information do we collect by using cookies?

Hiya servers may automatically collect data about your Internet address when you use the Web sites. This information, known as an Internet Protocol address, or “IP Address”, is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer or other device by your Internet service provider whenever you are on the Internet. When you request pages from the Web sites, our servers may log your IP Address and, if applicable, your domain name. Your IP Address is used to help identify you and to gather demographic information about our users as a whole. Hiya’s servers may also record the referring page that linked you to Hiya (e.g. another Web site or a search engine); the pages you visit on the Web sites; the Web site you visit after Hiya’s Web sites; the ads you see and/or click on; other information about the type of Web browser, computer, platform, related software and settings you are using; any search terms you have entered on this Web site or a referral site; and other Web usage activity and data logged by Hiya’s servers. Hiya uses this information for internal system administration, to help diagnose problems with servers, and to administer our products and services. Such information may also be used to gather demographic information, such as country of origin and Internet service provider.

When do our cookies expire?

The length of time a cookie will stay on your computer or mobile device depends on whether it is a “persistent” or “session” cookie. Session cookies will only stay on your device until you stop browsing, and help us linking your actions during a browsing session. Persistent cookies stay on your computer or mobile device until they expire or are deleted, and are activated each time that you visit the Web sites or App(s). Except for strictly necessary cookies, all cookies used on our Web sites and App(s) will expire after an appropriate period of time, which may vary according to the type of cookie.

What are first and third party cookies?

First-party cookies are cookies that belong to Hiya, third-party cookies are cookies that another party places on your device through our service. Third-party cookies may be placed on your device by someone providing a service for Hiya, for example to help us understand how our service is being used. Third-party cookies may also be placed on your device by our business partners so that they can use them to advertise products and services to you elsewhere on the Internet.

We use automated devices and applications, such as Google Analytics and Localytics, to evaluate use of our Web sites and App(s). Google Analytics and Localytics also add cookies to your computer or mobile device when you visit our Web sites or interact with certain parts of the App(s), and collect usage information to create statistics for Hiya. See Google's privacy policy and Localytics privacy policy for details. We also may use other analytic means to evaluate the use of our App(s). We use these tools to help us improve the performance and user experience of our App(s). These entities may use cookies and other tracking technologies to perform their services.

The Hiya Web sites (e.g., hiya.com, mrnumber.com) also embed badges from the social networking sites Facebook, Google+ and Twitter. The badges may add cookies to your computer or mobile device when you use the Apps() or Web sites and have enabled connection to these sites. See Facebook’s privacy policyGoogle’s privacy policyLinkedIn’s privacy policy, and Twitter’s privacy policy for details.
