You’d think a catastrophic disaster would give scammers the cue to lay off a little, but that obviously would be asking for too much. It’s obvious, since scammers aren’t even giving those who’ve been hit hard by Hurricane Harvey a break!
Instead, robocallers are taking advantage of victims while they’re in a very vulnerable state, and attempting to collect so-called overdue flood insurance premiums.
The FTC is warning Houston residents of the flood insurance scam, and reminding victims that they should be wary of such calls since insurance companies and agents will NEVER use robocalls to collect overdue premiums.
If you receive this type of call, hang-up immediately and contact your insurance agent directly to confirm premium payments.
