Phone scammers like to prey on the vulnerable – especially during tax-season, when honest citizens are scrambling to prepare their taxes to avoid costly repercussions. But vulnerable or not, the IRS phone scam has been going on for years and makes no exceptions to who their next victim will be.
Take, for instance, former MTV VJ Dave Holmes, who proved even with his celebrity status that he was no exception to a scammer posing as an IRS collection agent who was demanding $5,300 from him.
In a comedic turn of events, rather than hanging up on the unwanted call, Holmes, now a writer and actor, turned the tables around and got the last laugh when he chose to engage in some improv with the unsuspecting scammer.
